When life is normal we ply well worn tracks
of self-deception and comfort in the lie of
who we think we are over and against who
others are in relation to this false-self. The
alternative is seeing one’s self in the un-
varnished truth, with all the pretty and ugly
parts mixed together like a fruit-meat salad.
But when normal life is taken from us a great
gift has been bestowed, an opportunity to
finally get to the end of ourselves and look
on in horror and fascination at who we truly
are. It is an opportunity to begin the painful
process of healing the hurts, opening the eyes
of the soul, and to see the world in a new light.
