It’s sad and sweet all at the same time. My daughter was looking for me before leaving for her field hockey practice and couldn’t find me. They looked in the lower living room where I typically hang out, on the back porch, and in the front yard. I was nowhere to be found.
I was reading a book and in the one place they would never have thought to look for me… in my son’s room. I had gone in there on a whim and sat on his gaming chair, then opened my book to immerse myself in another world; a world apart from my own sadness and need.
From the van en route to the practice fields Anya texted me “Did you get abducted by aliens?” I placed my son’s-photo bookmark into the book and shut it. In her room I found a blow up alien doll she’d recently won at the local St. Andrew’s festival and sent her a fun selfie.
